Welcome to the Carter & Friends Events Page! Over the 2015 year Carter & Friends has held multiple events to help raise awareness for Spina Bifida. As we continue through 2016 we are looking forward to continuing our mission. All previous events are listed below as well as details about each event and the money that was raised. We appreciate all of the support given not just by those close to the foundation but also to companies and businesses who have taken part of this great cause!
Tony Sacco’s Embraces the Bif; May 21st, 2016
As our first event of the 2016 year Tony Sacco’s in Canton Michigan opened their doors and allowed us to partake in a fundraiser event. On Saturday, May 21st anyone who came into the restaurant to eat or pick up a take-out meal showed a flyer to their serving staff and 20% of the total bill was donated to Carter & Friends. We are so grateful to all of those who came and a big thank you to all of the employees at Tony Sacco’s!
Foundation Dinner: October 23rd, 2015
Our final event of the 2015 year was a formal foundation dinner held at the University of Michigan Union where guests had the opportunity to meet new people, enjoy great food and drinks, partake in a silent auction, and listen to two of the C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital surgeons who played a significant role in the fetal surgery program for Spina Bifida at the hospital. Dr. Cormac Maher and Dr. Marjorie Treadwell both spoke about Spina Bifida and our guests had the chance to listen to their stories and hear about the amazing things happening at Mott. This event was a huge success and we cannot thank our guests and doctors enough for being part of this night.
Buffalo Wild Wings Embraces the Bif: July 19th, 2015
What another great event with the help of Buffalo Wild Wings. For those who aren’t sure what this was all about read below and find out how we did!
What is it exactly? It’s simple! All you need to do is show up at the Buffalo Wild Wings in Howell, MI. show them the picture shown to the left and 20% of your total bill will go to ‘Embrace the Bif’. How amazing, it’s as easy as getting something to eat to help our cause.
We are looking forward to seeing how many people can make it out for the day. Throughout the entire day we will be at BWW sharing information with others about SB and what our ultimate goal as a foundation is. Looking forward to seeing you there!
Between people eating and us having SB t-shirts that could be purchased as a donation we were able to raise $735.00 in one day. This was a huge success with raising funds for MOTT research and we are so grateful to everyone who was part of that day with us.

Getting Thermal for MOTT: July 1st-16th, 2015
Our second fundraiser just ended and was a huge success for helping the NICU at MOTT Children’s Hospital. We had people purchase bags with a total of 33 bags to give to the NICU!!!
This fundraiser is a little different where money donated is going straight to bags that are being purchased and filled with goodies to give to families who have babies in the NICU at MOTT Children’s Hospital. A lot of times babies with SB don’t get to go home after being born and need to spend some time in the hospital. Moms know firsthand how hard it can be to not be able to bring their baby home and have to travel to and from each day to see their baby and we want to make this time a little easier for them.
Once we have a total tally and the bags are shipped we will be filling them up with goodies for families and parents to use while they are in the hospital waiting for their little one to come home. For each new family that is admitted into the NICU they will receive a bag. We are excited to share pictures of the bags once they arrive and we will be sure to post pictures of the drop off. Open Swim for MOTT: May 17th, 2015
For our first event we were lucky to partner with the Howell Area Aquatic Center (HAAC) who was gracious enough to donate their time, lifeguards, and entire pool for us! This was an hour and a half event which was an open swim for everyone and anyone who wanted to attend. Word was spread through a Facebook event, groups, people, and even to some business around the area. The HAAC was also amazing with putting flyers up around the entire pool area and contacting our local radio station to share this event out to our community. On the day of we had about 40-50 families who were able to make it out to the swim and donate money to the foundation. By the end of the day we had raised about $625.00 just from people coming to swim on a Sunday afternoon!
We are so glad that this first event was such a success and are grateful for the people who came to support us and to donate for MOTT. We look forward to hosting another in the future! For more information about this event please click here
